Ponstan Capsules are indicated for the relief of period pain. Period pain is caused by the release of excess Prostaglandins - this is the substance that causes muscle contractions in the uterine walls and spasms in the lining of the uterus to help shed the lining walls. The Period pain can be characterised by sporadic cramping and midline pain, radiating to the back and thighs. Associated symptoms are: nausea,vomiting,diarrhoea,headache,fatigue,dizziness and fainting. Postan Capsules contain Mefenamic Acid which helps to relieve period pain in two ways, 1)Inhibits the formation of prostaglandins - stops production of those prostaglandins that could cause more pain, 2)Blocks the prostaglandin receptor sites - stops those prostaglandins that are causing pain.
