Patient Info | Constipation is abnormally infrequent bowel motions and/or pain when passing small, hard stools. A bowel motion every day is not always necessary. Peoples bowel habits differ, and some people have a bowel motion only every second or third day or longer. Constipation is not the same as irregular bowel habits. People with constipation may have to strain to pass a bowel motion, which is usually hard. A constipated person may report headache, foul breath, furred tongue, loss of appetite, flatulence, irritability, stomach cramps, bloating, insomnia and general feeling of ill health. Occasionally, some people complaining of diarrhea may in fact have overflow diarrhea as a result of constipation. Haemorrhoids may indicate constipation. Diet is an important factor in constipation. A diet high in fiber (fruit, vegetables and grain products) is strongly recommended. This should be implemented once the acute problem has been treated with Dulcolax tablets. When there is sufficient fiber in the diet the stools will float. |
Warning | Refer to a pharmacist or doctor if: Constipation is accompanied by vomiting. There has been sudden weight loss. Bowel motions are very dark and tarry-looking or contain blood. The constipation has been recurrent, persistent or worsening. There is abdominal pain or bloating you suspect a person has been buying laxatives or using large amounts of laxatives as a method of losing weight. Constipation alternates with diarrhea. Constipation has continued longer than 7 days. Dulcolax tablets must be kept out of reach of children. |
