Usage Notes
Purpose
Lamisil DermGel is used to treat fungal infections of the skin caused by types of fungus called dermatophytes (tinea), commonly known as ringworm. Tinea of the feet is commonly known as athlete's foot. Tinea around the groin is commonly known as jock itch. Lamisil DermGel is also used to treat yeast infections of the skin. Yeasts are another type of fungus, a common example being Candida albicans. Lamisil DermGel is also useful in treating Pityriasis versicolor, a superficial fungus infection of the skin. Terbinafine, the active ingredient in Lamisil DermGel, works by killing dermatophytes and by killing or stopping the growth of yeasts.
Active Ingredient
Lamisil DermGel conatains Terbinafine 10mg/g
Dosage
Lamisil DermGel should be used once a day for one week. It is important to clean and thoroughly dry the affected areas before applying Lamisil DermGel. Apply the gel to the affected skin and surrounding area in a thin layer and rub it in lightly. If you need to apply the gel between your toes, fingers or buttocks, under a breast or armpit, or in the groin region, the area may be covered with gauze after applying the gel. This is particularly useful at bedtime. Even though the signs of infection may disappear after using the gel for only a few days, it is important to continue using it, as directed, for the recommended period. The reason being that if you use Lamisil DermGel for only a few days, there may possibly still be some fungus that has not been killed off by the gel and as a result the infection may soon return. See your doctor or pharmacist if there is no improvement in your condition after the recommended duration of treatment.
Contra Indications
Lamisil DermGel should not be used by people who are allergic to terbinafine or to any other ingredients in the gel.
Reactions
Like all medicines, Lamisil DermGel may cause some side effects. Some people may experience redness, itchiness or a stinging sensation in the areas where Lamisil DermGel has been applied. Although these symptoms are usually harmless, you should neverthless tell your doctor or pharmacist if they occur, beacause you may have an allergy to the gel.
Patient Info
Lamisil DermGel is for external use only. Wash your hands after using the gel. Avoid applying the gel near your eyes, or touching your eyes while you still have the gel on your hands. If a large amount of Lamisil DermGel is accidentally swallowed, particularly by a child, you should contact your doctor.
Warning
There is little clinical experience in the safety of using Lamisil DermGel in pregnancy. Lamisil DermGel should not used by pregnant women. If you fall pregnant while using Lamisil DermGel, inform your doctor. Lamisil DermGel may be used while breastfeeding as the small amounts of medicine that are absorbed through the mother's skin and excreted into the breast milk are unlikely to affect the infant. If you have any questions, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Experience with using Lamisil DermGel in Children is limited. Therefore, the use of Lamisil DermGel in children is not usually recommended.
